Ines Wegner is an unhappily married woman who works in a home improvement store in Berlin. Her husband Falco – who used to be a cheerful and popular teenager when they met – is now an unloving husband who has no respect for her and constantly mistreats her. The life of her widowed father Georg Jacobi, who appears to have withdrawn from the real world, revolves entirely around watching television; He prefers the company of a TV-set over to the company of his daughter and ignores Ines even on her birthday. When Ines comes across a former classmate, Hauke at the store one day, she realizes that the boy who was once a
Punk and an outsider has turned into a respected architect. Her capacity for suffering is tested to the fullest since she comes to realize that she turned from a happy girl at school to an adult who leads a very unsatisfying life. When Ines accidentally causes a bizarre accident in which a chandelier crashes down on Hauke’s head killing him her nerves are finally stretched to the limit. While she is sitting at home wallowing in frustration a girl suddenly appears. The girl turns out to be Ines's 16-year-old self, Ines Jacobi.
