The story unfolds with the logic of a dream. The external course the plot takes is unreal. However, it reflects the hopes, fears and desires of the characters in very concrete terms. This apposition of extreme improbability and inner truth results in a state which is described as "magic realism" when it occurs in literature. Strange things happen as though there is nothing odd about them. The past, present and future have been united.
