In this film author Marcus Fischötter sets out to trace the fascinating and surprising differences between attitudes to love which were prevalent in West and East Germany. While Playboy, porn and peep shows were part of everyday life in West Germany, in the East they were taboo. As well as Oswalt Kolle and Kurt Starke many celebrity witnesses in this documentary provide their personal view of the intimate sphere in the two Germany is. We hear from actors Jutta Speidel, Winfried Glatzeder and Ingrid Steeger, the musician Bernd Römer (Karat), the feminist Alice Schwarzer, Catholic professor Hans Maier, the East German stripper Heidi Wittwer, the East German model Eva Mahn, nude photographer Günther Rössler, amateur film-maker Helmut Pöschel, Martin Goldstein from the “Dr. Sommer” team, Jutta Resch-Treuwerth, family and marital therapists in East Germany, and Ruth Gassmann, who played the part of “Helga” in the West German educational film of the same name.
