Maria Bergmann owns a flower shop in a first-class Berlin hotel. Her son Niklas, her pride and joy, is about to take his final exams in his studies as a concert pianist. One day, Holger Schenk enters her flower shop and buys a bunch of flowers for the grave of his son Paul, who was killed in a car accident two years ago. The hit-and-run driver was never found. From the first moment on, Maria and Holger feel very close and confide in one another. Maria helps him get over his painful memories, so much so that he draws from her new courage to face life. Also, Niklas and his girlfriend Melanie appeal to him. One day, when the lost statement of a witness to the accident turns up, Maria develops a horrible suspicion.
