Ruth, an attractive woman in her early fifties, has enjoyed a close relationship with her daughter Lea ever since the separation from husband and father. Now in her mid twenties, Lea begins gradually to distance herself from her mother in favor of a relationship with Björn. She also gives up her studies to devote herself entirely to painting, a wish Ruth had also cherished in her youth. But, when Lea is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis apparently caused by unsafe working conditions at the printing company that her mother had organized a side job for her, the mother-daughter relationship is renewed and intensified. Then, as the illness escalates into a court case, Ruth is confronted by an old flame: the company’s lawyer, Robert Amelungen. Suddenly Ruth sees herself fighting two fights – one for justice, one for the life of her daughter.
