Martin Baerwald, a yuppie manager from Hamburg and a successful property dealer, gets hopelessly lost in deepest Mecklenburg (former GDR) whilst on a business trip. The roads get bumpier and he encounters many pot-holes before finally getting stuck in the pouring rain outside a dilapidated farmhouse. Anna Endrich, a sturdy country lass comes to his rescue. Martin is fascinated by the young woman's rude charm and readily accepts her grandparents' offer to stay overnight. Back at home in West Germany, he soon misses Anna. While pictures of Honecker disappear from living room walls all over East Germany and Anna's world threatens to collapse around her, Martin entices with his Western charm - but he has more success with Anna's little sister.
