Claire Zachanassian, successful businesswoman, billionaire and cosmopolitan pays a visit to the town of Güllen. She once lived here as Klara Wäscher, a beautiful young woman who was full of life, who fell in love with Alfred Ill and became pregnant. After a serious car accident, which left her permanently disabled, Alfred left her. Klara had lost everything: her health, her baby, her love and most importantly her believe in the good of mankind.
