Femina (1991)

FEMINA tells a story of inner growth, of a woman and her quest for truth through erotic experiences. By breaking down social taboos and overcoming her own psychological barriers, rooted in her childhood, the main character Bogna is able to redefine herself and shed the shackles which have tied her down all her life. She emerges as a fully matured, self- assertive personality. The story of Bogna adopts two storylines: on one hand the audience witnesses her present experiences, the people she encounters and the new sensation she savors as she strives to unravel some of the mysteries of human fate; the other narrative represents her past, the rigid religious and moral upbringing she experienced as a child, and also her early sexual awareness. The intricacy of Bogna's story requires an artistic approach in which realistic scenes set in the present are intertwined with retrospective fantasies from the heroine's childhood, enriched with symbolic references that represent her psychological condition at various stages of her life.
