In spite of the heat, the Children's Media Award ceremony 2019 (Kinder-Medien-Preis) turned out to be a beautiful event for the whole family - with around 450 guests (large and small), along with the charming host Tina Kaiser, happy award winners and radiant children's eyes. It is the 18th time that the award THE WHITE ELEPHANT (Der Weiße Elefant) was granted in the context of the Munich Filmfestival. The Medien-Club München e.V. organizes this award to honour extraordinary productions for children and teenagers and for talented newcomers alike. The award money of 11.000 EUR is proffered by the VFF Verwertungsgesellschaft der Film- und Fernsehproduzenten. This year's patrons were Bavarian Minister of Education and Culture, Dr. Michael Piazolo, as well as Bavarian Minister of Digital Affairs, Judith Gerlach.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Jury President Barbara Schardt acknowledged the significance of the TV film "Silent Screams" (Stumme Schreie - Ziegler Film / ZDF). Barbara Schardt: "The film highlights the cruel and painful experiences made by children and young persons within their families.... And it demonstrates clearly how hopelessly burocratic and inflexible our society deals with this issue. The Children's Media Award jury thanks the Ziegler Film Produktion and Prof. Regina Ziegler for the film "Silent Screams" (Stumme Schreie / ZDF), especially producer Gabriele Lohnert, script author Torsten Naether and the supervisor and mentor of the child actors, Monika Steil. In the producer's own words: "This film would never have been possible without her tireless commitment to the child actors."
