After the gruesome murder of a young woman, Daniel Beerbaum (Jens Eulenberger) is sentenced to many years of hospitalised therapy in a metal institution. His mother Julia (Gudrun Landgrebe) feels very guilty. Prior to her marriage with the successul tax accountant Philip Beerbaum (Hans Peter Hallwachs) - she had a passionate affair with Andreas Dalberg (Ulrich Pleitgen). Her young twin boys witnessed the affair. This left Danile traumatised for life.
Together with her other son Ralf (Jens Eulenberger), Julia tries everything to help Daniel. After six years Daniels condition seems stable, and so Julia risks something: She wants to relieve Daniel of the last few weeks in the mental institution, and so she persuades Ralf to change places with Daniel. No one seems to recognise the trick until Daniel meets Ralf's ex girl-friend Tina Weiss (Gabi Gottschalk).
Daniel persuades Tina to go with him to his family home in Mallorca. From now on a bomb starts ticking…
