Back to Happiness

2009

Ines Wegner (Susanna Simon) is an unhappily married woman who works in a DIY store in Berlin. Her husband Falco (Nicki von Tempelhoff) – a cheerful and popular teenager when they were at school together, now just a boring husband - has no respect for her and mistreats her constantly. And the life of her widowed father Georg Jacobi (Lutz Blochberger), who appears to have withdrawn from the real world, revolves entirely around his television; he prefers this to the company of his daughter, even on her birthday. When Ines runs across a former classmate Hauke (Guido Broscheit) in her work at the DIY store one day, and realizes that the boy who was once a punk and an outsider has been transformed into a respected architect, her capacity for suffering is tested to the full. She comes to see that while she was so happy at school, life has become entirely unsatisfactory for her. Now Ines inadvertently causes a bizarre accident in which a chandelier crashes down on Hauke and puts an end to his life, and her nerves are finally stretched to the limit. While she is sitting at home, wallowing in frustration, suddenly a girl appears who introduces herself as Ines's 16-year-old self, Ines Jacobi (Anna Hausberg). Ines attempts to flee from this apparition and makes her way along a magic tunnel which emerges in the schoolyard back in the year 1986! Will she be able to reshape her future life from this point - and then find a way back to the present?
