Cleo Berger (Christine Neubauer) couldn’t believe her eyes when police
appeared at her youngest daughter’s birthday with a search warrant. Double-crossing tricks of her separated husband push Cleo to the edge of catastrophe. Without a job she has to leave the house with her three children: Sophie (Laura Alberta Szalksi), Tim (Tim Oliver Schultz), and Emma (Lulu Grimm). With a heavy heart she turns to her estranged father, Professor Werner Kleist (Dietmar Schönherr), who had abandoned her after the death of her mother. But the move to Professor Kleist’s house brings more problems. The pensioned archaeologist leads an ascetic life and has other ideas on how to raise children. The tension is relieved by a friendly neighbor, the widow Thekla Heiser (Karin Eickelbaum), who even resolves the dilemma of a broken Egyptian figure by one of the children. Meanwhile, Cleo jobs as a waitress and is heartened by her journalist friend Ester (Silke Matthias) – and the neighbor Jan (Michael Roll), with whom she falls in love …
