The beautiful Eva Zacharias (Christine Neubauer) has only recently moved to the idyllic village of Moosbach with her husband Peter (Peter Davor) and their two children Martin (Patrick Kostya) and Laura (Janina Meißner). Peter has accepted a position as an industrial chemist with the paint company Trammert. His friend Gabriel (Gabriel Barylli) is his new boss, and the children quickly settle down with the new friends they make here. Until a dramatic incident occurs; after swimming in the local river Martin falls victim to a severe attack of dermatitis, while his friend Ingo (Lambert Neubauer), son of the mayor, loses consciousness when he emerges from the water. Despite immediate attempts to resuscitate him by Dr. Kampwirth (Dominic Raacke), Ingo dies a few days later in hospital. Eva begins to wonder whether there is something seriously wrong with Moosbach and the river. Soon her suspicions focus on two possible causes of the pollution: the local garbage dump - and the chemical factory where her husband works. Peter becomes furious and forbids her to carry out any research into his company. Her ideas are generally dismissed as idiotic fantasies. But Dr. Kampwirth comes to share her opinion. And when she takes some secret water samples, she makes a discovery with far-reaching consequences...
