Karen Brendel (Thekla Carola Wied), married to Evangelical Pfarrer Oskar Brendel (Walter Kreye), live a harmonious and rewarding life in their shared church work. He’s respected by the community, and she fulfills all the duties of a pastor’s wife. At a town festival their youngest son Matthias (Ludwig Blochberger), tipsy after celebrating his graduation, can’t stand it when his adored
Maren (Mira Bartuschek) flirts with another. The quarrel leads to a fight, and Maren is injured on the forehead. Upon being cared for by Dr. Brunner (Paul Fassnacht), Maren leaves the festival. Later, however, she is found badly injured and unconscious at the foot of a tower, with the mobile phone of Matthias lying next to her – and Matthias nowhere in sight. Brought to the hospital in
critical condition, Maren’s mother Doris Grothe (Imogen Kogge) blames Matthias, and a police search is ordered. When Karen finally confronts Matthias for the
truth in the affair, she discovers things about her son and husband that will change her life …
