A serious car accident results in the death of the woman Michel Camus (Pierre Brice) loves; Sylvia (Gudrun Landgrebe) and her son Bertel are both killed. The only survivor of the crash is Michel and Sylvia’s baby, who is taken to the intensive care unit of the local hospital. The driver of the other vehicle, who caused the accident, manages to escape and is now being sought by the police. Amidst the turbulent events in this otherwise sleepy village in Upper Bavaria, Michel now receives a very tempting offer from Paris: a publisher wants him to write a book about animal psychology. But in order to do so the French vet would have to return to his own country...
