The Geierwally
2004
Christine Neubauer brings the legendary female character to life anew: together with author Felix Huby and director Peter Sämann, the successful team which already presented viewers with “In the Valley of Silence” (attracting 6.5 million viewers) has been reunited. Siegfried Rauch (“Cape of Love”), Martin Feifel (“Hunger for Life “) and Petra Berndt (“Jennerwein”) play the other major roles, with filming continuing until the middle of June in the Upper Austrian regions of Vorderstoder, Hinterstoder and Windischgarsten.

The old farmer Franz Flender (Siegfried Rauch) would like to marry his daughter Wally (Christine Neubauer) to the wealthy landowner Josef Gruber (Martin Feifel). The two of them were actually involved in a relationship, but their different ideas about almost everything forced them to split up. Today Wally resists the advances of the now widowed Josef. In fact, when he asks her to dance at the village festival she refuses him in front of all the villagers. Flender confronts his strong-willed daughter and loses his temper with her, causing her to storm out, deeply distraught. Out on the lonely mountainside her only companion is a young eagle who she rescues when he falls from his nest. She gives him the nickname Geierwally. Meanwhile, a maid called Veronika (Petra Berndt) is intent on intrigue; she constructs a tissue of lies in order to drive a wedge even deeper between father and daughter, so that she can win Josef for herself...
The production also features Ronja Forcher, Peter Mitterrutzner and Udo Thomer.
“The Geierwally” is a production from Ziegler Film (Regina Ziegler) in coproduction with Wega Film (Veit Heiduschka) for ARD Degeto, commissioned by Channel One and subsidised by the state of Upper Austria and the Film Fund of RTR GmbH Austria.
