The revoulutionary plays "1789" and "1793", the monumental film "Moliére", the dramatisation of Klaus Mann's "Mephisto", the Shakespeare cycle - Ariane Mnouchkine's work always creates sensation, and the work are extolled as"first rate theatrical events" and "productions of the century"."in search of the sun" presents Wener Schroetr, himself an experienced director of film and theatre, observing the artistic endeavours of his colleague, Mnouchkine, and her Theatre du Soleil; a collective consisting of both professional and amateur actors. This ensemble, which has been in existence since 1970, is led and kept together by the mother-figure and principal, mnouchkine Schroeter attempts to bring out the extraordinary, specific nature of the Theatre du Soleil, extracts from "molière", "1789" ( the stage version was filmed in 1974), and scenes from the group's latest project, the play "The Horrific and as yet Unfinished Story of Norodom Sihanouk, King of Combodia" by Helène Cixous, all indicate the mastery of Mnouchkine's productions.
