Bärbel Schäfer and Thomas Ohrner in the Theater des Westens
On Saturday 2.12.2000 the time had come once again: in the Theater des Westens in Berlin, Thomas Ohrner presented the comedy gala “Laughing is Good for You”, in support of UNICEF, broadcast live for the second year running by ZDF.

More than 20 celebrity comedians, including Jochen Busse, Sissi Perlinger, Michael Mittermeier, Dieter Hallervorden, Helge Schneider and Marco Rima, raised lots of laughs from an audience in its millions.

And the best thing about it is that approximately 3 million Deutschmarks was collected for special UNICEF aid projects.

This year the following aid programmes, with the partnership of celebrity UNICEF ambassadors, formed the focus of the comedy gala:

Bäbel Schäfer, just back from Nepal, presented in an aid programme to help young girls get basic education by attending school. Sabine Christiansen was in Mozambique, to find some information about the situation of HIV infected children there. Little money is available in that country for education or treatment. Marie-Luise Marjan brought back with her moving pictures from Brazil, where children live and work on garbage dumps. The aim of the Brazil project is to give the children new perspectives and ways of dealing with the situation. More information is available at www.unicef.de.
